EUDR deadlines for 2026 and 2027: which date applies?

See whether 30 December 2026 or 30 June 2027 applies to your company, including the size test, timber exception, and links to current EU sources.

7 min practical guideReviewed 2026-08-08

The current EUDR timetable does not use one date for every company. Most obligations apply from 30 December 2026 for large and medium enterprises and from 30 June 2027 for most micro and small enterprises that meet the statutory timing condition. A specific exception brings certain timber products already covered by the EUTR into application on 30 December 2026 even for affected micro and small operators.

A practical preparation workflow

  1. 1

Confirm the enterprise size and whether it was established as micro or small by 31 December 2024.

  2. 2

Confirm the product, activity, operator or trader role, and whether the EUTR timber exception applies.

  3. 3

Record the official source and review date used for the timetable decision in the case.

30 December 2026: large and medium enterprises

The European Commission’s current implementation material states that the EUDR enters into application for large and medium enterprises on 30 December 2026. The amending regulation applies the main listed obligations from that date, subject to the regulation’s detailed scope and transitional provisions. Do not infer company size from headcount alone; confirm the applicable accounting-category test and the company’s role in the relevant activity.

30 June 2027: most micro and small enterprises

For most operators that qualify as micro or small undertakings and were established as such by 31 December 2024, the relevant obligations apply from 30 June 2027. This is not a general extension for every business commonly described as an SME: medium enterprises remain on the 30 December 2026 timetable, and the legal size and establishment conditions must be checked against the regulation.

Timber exception for products already covered by the EUTR

The later 30 June 2027 date does not apply to affected micro and small operators for products covered by the Annex to the EU Timber Regulation. The Commission summarizes the application date for those operators as 30 December 2026. Wood and furniture businesses should therefore confirm the exact product and EUTR coverage instead of assuming that small company size automatically produces the later date.

Why the date alone is not a scope decision

A timetable answer depends on more than company size. Product coverage under Annex I, the relevant commodity, the activity performed, the supply-chain role, establishment details, transitional production facts, and any specific exceptions can all matter. Record the facts and source used for the preliminary result, then route uncertain classification or legal questions to an appropriate reviewer.

Keep a dated source snapshot in the Filing Case

Regulatory timetable pages can change. Save the official URL, access or review date, the enterprise and product facts used, and the reviewer’s conclusion. If an amendment or corrected classification changes the applicable date, create a new decision version and rerun the readiness checks. A countdown widget without those underlying facts is not sufficient evidence for a filing decision.
